Passion Isn’t Enough

So what’s your passion?

Ah, another favorite question of mine.  I’ve had people ask me this many times. And every time, it makes me pause.  There’s not a quick answer, like – I’m passionate about teaching authentic leadership through impersonating Benjamin Franklin.  *I’ve actually had someone share this with me.*

You Can Ask the Universe

This is a great 1 minute clip of Jim Carrey’s commencement speech at Maharishi University of Management.  Here’s the full video if you have 26 minutes.  Well worth your time.

Jim Carrey is a classic story of the incredible power of thinking big and dreaming big.

Fear is going to be a factor in your life, but you can control how big of a role it takes.

“So many of us choose our lives out of fear disguised as practicality.  What we really want seems impossibly out of reach and ridiculous to expect, so we never dare to ask the universe.   I’m saying, I’m the proof… that you can ask the universe for it.”

“My father could have been a great comedian, but he didn’t think that was possible for him – so he made a conservative choice to be an accountant.  And when the company he worked for let him go, we struggled to survive.  I learned many great lessons from my father, not the least of which, was that you can fail at what you don’t want, so you might as well take a chance on doing what you love.” – Jim Carrey

Figure out what is worth your time.

The purpose of his life was to free people from the concerns of their lives.

How will you serve the world?

What does the world need that your talent can provide?

You Don’t Have To Find Out You’re Dying… To Start Living

For those of you who have not heard Zach Sobiech’s story – take 22 minutes to see this mini-documentary.

It’s incredibly inspiring and moving.

Zach passed away last year on May 20, 2013, but his story lives on.

There’s a lot of things to take away from this video, but the primary message for me was:

“Start living.”

Don’t wait until something horrible happens when you start to realize that you have limited time on this earth.

There is no guarantee of tomorrow regardless of your health, wealth, family, education, etc.

You’ve got to live life to the fullest.

Whatever you’ve been waiting to do, start doing it.

What are your dreams?

What are your passions?

What are your goals?

What can you start today to move closer to your dreams?
